.tmp file question

So, one of our servers ran out of space... Upon further inspection of that server, I saw a couple .TMP files:

_vxfivspcachefile_2.tmp
_vxfivspcachefile_1.tmp

Both files were a gig in size. I believe that the files were created during that systems' backup and were created by Netbackup. To delete these files I shut down the client service on the client side and restarted teh client. That deleted the files.

I'm running NBU 5.1 mp3 on w2k3 standard server. I don't have VSP enabled for that client nor do I see it configured in the Master Server host properties. My question is why are these temp files created? I thought that these were only generated for Flash backups or raw volume backups. if they need to be created, can I have NBU place them elsewhere??

STATUS CODE: 156 "snapshot error encountered" occurs when utilizing VSP or VSS for open file backups.
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/276739.htm

DOCUMENTATION: When using VERITAS Snapshot Provider to perform backups of open files, the creation of temporary files (i.e. vxfiVspCacheFile_0.tmp) for this function may still exist after the backup has completed.
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/270127.htm

Large temp files called _vxfivspcachefile_x.tmp reside on the hard disk and cannot be deleted.

Try the second technote from both Alex and Bob (both are same). We had same problem and excluding the file from AV scans sorted out the issue for us. Hope it works for you too.

Cheers,
