Back up Storage Exec 5.5 Settings

Does anyone know how to backup your Storage Exec settings? For example the space allocation settings that you have set for all your managed resources. I want to do this incase of a disaster where all my policies would have been wiped out.

Hi Eric:

I haven't tried 5.5 but in 5.3, all the SE settings are saved in the registry under HKLM/software/veritas/5.3/... you policies might be listed under \policies or something similar... I apologize for not give you the exact path... unfortunely I don't have SE installed on my machine.

Ok, so in theory, if something gets corrupted, I would just import the registry key that I exported to backup the settings, and they should all be back...right?

yeah as long as you are not using AD... if you're using AD (Active Directory) then the point is moot since DC is always backep up and all the settings are replicated to all the DC's in the domain.

P.S. I am talking about AD in the sense of SE policies being used throught AD.

Hi Eric,
I asked the same question to Symantec and got the resonse below.

Along with following the document
http://support.veritas.com/docs/276880

For 5.5 you need to backup the file VxSEQuotas.md - located in the System Volume Information directory at the root of each drive that contains a managed resource.

To access this file in the System Volume directory, change NTFS permissions. You may also need to unload the quota mini filters manually if they are holding on to this file. Use this at the command line:
fltmc unload filescreenfilter
fltmc unload qafilter
