Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 End of Month Lock Up

We are using Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 v 9.0.3.40369.  Every month our automatic backup jobs fail to complete and it locks our server to the point of having to do a cold server start.  The two jobs are set to run the new recovery point sets.  At the point the recovery point jobs fail, then our daily incremental jobs no longer start.

There are no events logged in Backup event log, all events are turned on.  There is plenty of space for our backups to be added.  If we run a manual backup it works fine and the daily incremental jobs work fine until the end of the next month.

I've tried deleting and recreating the month end job.

If we run the jobs manually after a IPL of the server the incremental jobs start working again.

Has anyone encountered this and how did you resolve it?

Thank you.

Nop, never seen this.

You say there are no logs in the event log? In that case, it may be wise to open a support case and send your logs in to them to see if BESR is the culprit, and if so, why.

I have exactly the same problem on a SBS2003 since about 3 months.

Have you found a solution?

No solution yet as we don't know a cause. At what point (%) during the backup does the server lock? Do you see any error messages? If you could provide a few more details, we could have a place to start.

The Server will always freeze when BESR is starting to backup the exchange server.

In the log file Backup Exec System Recovery.log.txt the last message was that the backup job automatically started.

The last entries in EventLog\System from the SBS2003 was:

.) 22:02:07: The "Symantec SymSnap VSS Provider" service was successfully sent a start control.

I also have the known problem that the server will lock up during shut down.

First, run LiveUpdate to ensure that the SSR software is at the latest version.

Second, ensure VSS is enabled on 2003SBS: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/838183/en-us

Third, you may need to run this update: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940349

Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R2 is also installed on the same machine and is responsible for the Exchange backups.

For this VSS is enabled and all the latest VSS and Symantec updates are installed.
