Disaster recovery stops image file restoration at 94%

Using the Recover Computer option on the Symantec Recovery disc, Backup Exec Desktop v8.01 stalls at 92 - 94%.  No error messages appear.  The desktop and software are responsive and permit cancellation of the operation and subsequent desktop auto reboot.

HARDWARE & SOFTWARE

Desktop System Processor: Intel Core Duo

Desktop Storage Device: Seagate SATA HDD

External HDD with Recovery File: Seagate - USB connection

Networking Services Status: No (Local restore)

OS: XP Pro - MCE Service Pack 3

SRD 8.01: Custom disk with drivers from target HDD

SRD 8.51: Custom disk with drivers from target HDD

Recovery File Size: 175GB

Experience Level = Expert

HISTORY

1) Verified the integrity of the recovery file: OK

2) First attempted to restore the recovery file used SRD v8.01: Failed

3) Downloaded SRD v8.51 from the Symantec website to restore the recovery file: Failed

4) Reloaded OS and tested the ability to restore files to a single HDD folder from the image: Successful

5) Next plan-Copy System32 drivers to memory stick and load drivers prior to restoration attempt: Pending

In the past, I have successfully restored the system 8 times (Microsoft MediaCenter can be very 'fragile' at times!) using Norton Ghost 14 without any issues. I even attempted to restore the recovery file using the Norton Ghost 14 Recovery Disc.  It recognised the recovery file and attempted to restore it but stalled at 37%.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

At 92~94% of the restore, when it appears to hang without error see if you can cycle through the screens with ALT-TAB; is there an error screen then hidden behind another screen? Does these images convert to VMDK or VHD successfully?
