Question on BESRM Groups

Hi, everyone.

I am new to BESRM and have a guestion regarding the use of groups.  I've hunted a bit and cannot find an answer to my question.  I was hoping someone here could point me in the right direction.

Here is the background information:
  • I have four servers managed in my console.
  • I have a group for my servers.
  • I have a backup job defined.
  • I have placed the servers in the group.
  • I have assigned the backup job to the group.
  • The end result is all computers in that group are assigned the backup job.
My question is will all servers start the job at the same time, or will the job for each server in the group be queued?

It seems like they should be, but my hunch is they will all start at the same time.  If the jobs are not queued, can someone explain the function of groups beyond an organizing container?  Also, can you provide an example of when I would assign a job to a group knowing the backups will not be queued.

Thanks,

Ryan

The job will start at the same time for all servers. You can use the option called 'Distribute> strategy <evenly> across (minutes)' to avoid this. More info here:

Hope that helps.

Thanks.  I set up a test job last night and saw that all servers started at the same time.  The article you provided will be helpful.

Thank you,

Ryan
