Backing up a FreeBSD or Linux based server

I would like to also backup servers that are non-Microsoft i.e. FreeBSD and Linux.

Is this possible? Do you do this using the usual push install method? Is there something else you have to install on these machines?

Thanks in advance for your help

You have to locally install agents for Linux/unix based operating systems they cannot be push installed. You will also need the correct licenses.

Also Backup Exec does not support all Operating Systems so you need to review the software compatibility list (SCL)

If you are using backup exec

You can push the agent on Linux/Unix Box . You have to download the agent from the site "Fileconnect.Symantec.com"

You can backup both Linux/Unix  and  Windows machine from the same job but be sure that the Linux/Unix Version is compatible with the backup Exec version you are using .

If you are using Netbackup , then you can push the agent for if the master server is also Unix . You have to create seperate policy for Unix/Linux backups.

Hi Symboy,

I have tried to download the agent from fileconnect but it asks for a seriel number that I cannot find. Do you have any idea to where the serial number lies?

Thanks
