Backup Exec 12.5 - Using GRT with Exchange Server 2007 query

Currently in Exchange Server 2007 I have one storage group with three mailstore databases.

When restoring an email from tape it appears the whole Information Store is being staged to disk as it took 12 hours to restore one email recently.

If I move two of the database to two other storage groups will Backup Exec only stage the storage group where the mailbox sits and then recover the email?  I hope it is the case as it should speed up restoring emails.

Hello,

This is how it works. The Exchange restore from TAPE is a 2 stage restore.
1  : Mounts the entire Information Stores on the DISK
2  : Restoring a single item from the STAGED Information Stores.

Hope this helps.....

Thankyou Dev T for the info.  To avoid the delay caused by having the entire IS staged and needing to be restored to disk first, from now on I will use a Exchange 2007 Recovery Storage Group, which lets you restore individual mailstores and later lets you do a copy or merge of a mailbox.  With current database sizes this will take at most 4 hours, as opposed to 12 hours to restore the whole IS.
