Cannot Perform Disaster Recovery/ Restore on Domain Controller

OK. Need to restore the C drive and System state on a DC. I have a full backup of both. The DC was unbootable, so the C drive has been formatted and it has fresh copy of Windows 2000. Not added to domain, but named the same as the DC. It is in workgroup called WORKGROUP.

Installed Remote agent to the Remote Server using command line, which has gone on OK.

When I attempt to restore it comes up with 'unable to attach to one of the drives'. I am thinking that I have a permissions issue with this computer that is not on my domain. When I try to access its resources through the Backup tab, I browse through the workgroup and it displays all its drives. But it also says 'selection of this item is disabled. you are not authorised to access this item, a license key for BE is not installed on this machine, or the agent is old or incompatible'

As far as I can tell, BE cannot access this computer. I have given the admin user and password to BE, but it still complains that it cant do anything. Completely stuck now really. Is there any way that I can sort this out?

If I cannot get it to connect to this workgroup computer then I will have to put it onto the domain, although veritas advise against this... why exactly? surely the SSID will be changed when the restore has overwritten it.

Please help, as is live system and needs to be restored. Currently running on one DC when we did have 2

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I do not have the Intelligent Disaster Recovery Option.

I am trying to recover the server by this method: Disaster Recovery of a remote Windows 2000 or 2003 computer (includes non-authoritative restore of Active Directory for a domain controller) http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/236286.htm

I have followed all steps, but it will not authenticate against the workgroup computer. I try to authenticate it by going to the backup tab, browsing the workgroup to the computer and then clicking on the resource. The account I normally use in BE wont work because it is a domain account. If I use an administrator account of the machine then it will now display all the partitions but WONT allow me to do anything with them. It says 'selection of this item is disabled. you are not authorised to access this item, a license key for BE is not installed on this machine, or the agent is old or incompatible'

The agent on the machine is 9.1.4691.35 The bengine.exe file on the media server is 9.1.4691.42. Are these compatible? I definitely have the license for the remote agents installed on the server.

Any restore jobs fail because they cannot attach the drives. Presumably for the same reason that the backup jobs cannot backup any of the partitions. How can I get veritas to communicate correctly with the server that I wish to restore??

Didnt work because dns was configured incorrectly. Didnt realise veritas was using dns. So got the restore done.

Shame a full backup with system state doesnt boot

Hello,

Refer to the following technotes that might help resolve the issue:

Title:A dialog explaining "Selection of this item is disabled. You are not authorized to access this item, a license key for Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Server is not installed on the machine or the Remote Agent is old or incompatible" is displayed when trying to select drives on the remote server.
http://support.veritas.com/docs/258984

Title: When using the VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.0 for Windows Servers Intelligent Disaster Recovery option to recover a remote Windows computer, the restore job fails immediately with the error "Unable to attach to one of the drives."
http://support.veritas.com/docs/263176

Hope this helps. If the issue still persists, revert with details.
