Has anyone successfully directly cabled a target server to a media server?

You mean rather than going over a normal network, connecting the backup exec server directly to the target server?

If you have available NIC's you should be able to do it by connecting the two with a crossover cable, then as long as the connecting NIC's have Netbios over TCP/IP enabled, they should be able to see each other. Haven't ever tried, but I figure it would work.

Shouldn't be too hard.

Get a crossover ethernet cable (not a standard cable)

Make sure that the IP addresses and Masks allow each to "see" the other

Should be all you need to do, tho you could add an entry into a the HOSTS or LMHOSTS file on each pointing to the other
