Incremental backup issue

Hi guys,

every incremental backup always saves the complete directory structure in the backup set, even if nothing has changed in the whole tree. This leads to a lot of wasted diskspace and irritations of the user who searches the catalogs for folders to restore, finding lots of 0 byte folders.
Is there any way to change this behaviour so that only changed folders are included in the backup sets?

Unfortunately Backup Exec has always listed every directory in the incremental backups.

The workaround would be to use the "Search Catalogs" and find the exact file you wish to restore.

Feel free to add this functionality to our enhancement site:

Dean,

your workaround is no workaround. It doesn't matter if you do the search catalog or browsing interactively through the resource selection. There is always for every incremetal backup much too much useless information. I consider this as BUG not as enhanced functionality.
Even the wasted disk- and tapespace ist a serious problem since I'm talking about several TB of data and some 100 thousands of directories that are listed and backed up useless every single day...

So again, is there any way to get rid of this?

This is the way it has always been with Backup Exec.

If you want developers to add this functionality to the next releases of Backup Exec then you need to submit an enhancement request.
