Installation program rejects license key

I am installing Backup Exec 11d for Windows Servers on a Windows 2003 server. I registered the serial number from the serial number certificate and got a license key back in an e-mail. When I enter this number into the installation program's "Enter License Key" page and click on "add" I get an error message "An Invalid License Key has been entered. Please verify the key and try again."

Obviously something is wrong with the number I got. I searched for a way to call for help, and after much searching found a support phone number. They refused to help me with this installation issue without purchasing a support contract and referred me back to "e-mail support" which in turn made me register for this support forum. I don't know what a support forum will do with a question like this, but help me if you can.

It seems like the craziest way to try to help customers, but I'll play along...

Well I finally got someone at Symantec Sales to answer my question and they helped me get a different serial number to register, so I got the installation to work. Thanks anyway. -Steve
