Network IP address Scheme modification: Impact on Backup Exec?

Hi,

We will change our IP address Scheme and I want to know if there are special consideration to know before proceeding. Do we need to do something special before and/or after changing IP address of Backup Exec Server and all other backed up servers or if DNS is OK everything else will continue to work like before?

Thanks!

Jim

Jim:

There should be no issues with changing your IP address as far as Backup Exec is concerned.  The one note of caution I would put out there is that if you are specifying an IP range or specific NIC to backup through as opposed to all NIC's you may have to modify your job settings within BE.

Thanks,

Joshua

Backup software, the breaker of networks and disk subsystems.

If your DNS is rock solid and you are connecting to machines by hostname, then you will mostly be good to go.

You're lucky, if this was an old NetBackup environment, over the years NBU admins always muck with the host files, and ignore DNS.  Makes things interesting when the network changes and NBU breaks.
