Network Storage & Local HDD

I have a network storage and another job that backs up to the local hdd of the BE 2012 server. On both of these storage locations there is no option to chose Overwrite or Append. If I change the job to a Tape storage, then the options are available.

1. What type of backup is occuring then?

2. Is it possible to make the options available?

No. For disk storage, BE 2012 will always overwrite the disk media. You cannot append to disk media with BE 2012. There is no advantage to appending to disk media
