Severe error - BackUp Exec Version 8.60 Rev 3878

We have been getting the following Tape Alert Message

Sevice: Seagate 0 (APP_ENG_SERVER)
A severe error occurred while reading or writing data. This job may not have been successfully completed.

Can anyone offer suggestions to correct this problem?

Any Event log entries?
If you shut down all BackupExec services, does NTBackup run OK?

I do not know how to shut down all services
I get Event log entries:

To shut down BackupExec Services, either go the the Services applet, and shut them down manually, ot use the BESTOP and BESTART command from the \Utilities directory
