Hi,
I have some random older tapes sitting around (from before my time) and was wondering if there is a way to simply browse through them to see if there is anything important on there before being destoyed.
Thanks

You can go to the Storage tab, click on the tape and see the backup sets in the tape.

Hi,
Assuming LTO, the rule of thumb for this is as follows:
* LTO will write 1 version back, ie. LTO5 will write to LTO5 and LTO4 tapes;
* LTO will read 2 versions back, ie. LTO5 will read LTO5,4 & 3 tapes
As long as you can read the tapes on a hardware level, you'd simply put the tape into the drive and run a Catalog job. This puts the data into the BEDB, and you can then browse the tape from a Restore tab for instance.
Thanks!

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply.
I was able to catalogue the tape. Do I need to know which server backup is contained on the disk in order to select from "Backup and Restore" tab?

Either the tape name or the date range should do.
Thanks!
