Hi we are currently Running Enterprise Vault 9.x for our Email archive, which we have 1 Vault Running, which is comming close to 1TB.

Is it Possible to Create another Vault and Move Certen emails over to it.

For Example move anything older than two years.

if it is Possible what effect will it have on the shortcut files create in the exchange mailbox? will these have to be updated etc?

Many Thanks,

What you're referring to is a Vault Store.

You can create more yes.

You can also create more partitions, which is where the data actually resides on disk.

If you create more Vault Stores (and partitions underneath) then you can use the Move Archive Wizard to move data to that new Vault Store.

It's not possible to move everything >2 years old in this way.

You *could* use Collect/Migrate to do that.. but I wouldn't advise going the migrate route.

What Effect would this have in access the Archive for the Clients if Any?

Not sure how much 'downtime' is involved in Move Archive - it has been a long time since I used it.  However, it shouldn't be very long.

Another option worth considering is just to create new users on the new vault store.  And maybe move 1-10-20 archives across to the new vault store 'at some point'.

By the way.. 1 TB isn't particularly large.  Is there a reason you want to split things up?

Thanks. Not To worried about downtime as this can be done at of hours, my concern is that after the move that they won't be able to open Archived emails as the stub file create must point to the Server and then the file location so to speak.

The Reason why we are looking at this option is that we have a FAS2020 and would like to move the server over to it and take advenadge of Deduplication, the Fas2020 has a Limit that it can only have a Deduplicate a volume over 1024GB any create and Dedup has to be turned off, at the momenet we are using 998GB. and dedup is Turned Off.

we have another Server that Currently has a vault size of 500GB, and we manged to save over 200GB by Turning Dedup on, and would like to do the same for this Server, but first it requires a bit of Maintance.

The EV Administrators Guide gives you more information on Move Archive.

After the move, the shortcuts will be repointed to the new location.
