Disk space saved

Is there any way to see through the operating system on a hard disk from which I'm archiving what is the actual occupied space?

Thank you very much.

Regards.

I think you can do something., . .but as with most things... it is a trade off.

I think the issue is described here:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH175736

That is to say that this is by design of the way netapp filers calculate space. With that stated. . .you can loose some of the end user expirecne and set the following:

This will casue all placeholders on a netapp to have 0kb and reflect in the size estimates.

If you are talking about the FSA refer the following document

Hello RahuIG yes I'm talking about FSA.

I know I can see this information in reports but can I see it through tthe opertive system with right button over the hard drive?

With right button over a file or a folder with archived files I see the size of the archived file or files and the real size in disk (only some kb).

I think that in the hard drive you can't see the real size because the placeholders shows the size of the archived file. But it could be posible as can be done with nettapp filers not to see the size of the archived file and see the size of the placeholder (only some kb)?I think in this way, with right button over the hard drive I will see the real size occupied.

Thank you very much.

You have refer the "size on disk" for the placeholder.

Thanks for your help RahuIG, I don't have that problem because I see the size as figure 2. I need to see the "size on disk" in the hard drive, but in the hard drive there's no option to see "disk on size".

Because it, I think if I change as in a Nettapp filer not show the real size of the archived file in the placeholder information I could see the real occupied space on a hard drive.

Thanks and regards.

I Dont think there is any setting thorugh which you can archieve what you want . you may write an idea about the same so if many customer likes the idea  symantec engineering might think to get that enhancement in the upcoming build .

If you right-click a physical drive letter, then it shows you the occupied and free space and this should be the physical space.

If you right-click on a network drive, then the properties mostly don't show correct values. Better right-click on the folder, where your data is stored and wait until the values are calculated. The values show you the size (of the files) and the size on disk, which is the physical occupation. But this can last a couple of hours, depending on the number of files/directories.

There is no other way to determine the real occupied space by one-click.

I think that nothing can be done with it. The best way it's to see the reports because with right-click on the hard drive it doesn't show the physical space and with a network drive you can't see correct values.

Working with hard drives the only way it's to select all and wait to see the "disk on size".

I thought that something could be done changing a registry value because with Neapp filers you can change the following registry: SetNetappPHOriginalSize and if it could be done with files on a Windows server it could show the size on disk.

Thanks for your help, regards.
