I currently have EV8 installed on Windows 2008 x86 connecting to an individual SQL 2005 server. I want to run EV9 on Windows 2008 R2 x64 connecting to a SQL 2008 R2 cluster we just installed. The latest compatibility_charts.pdf shows EV 9 not supported on Windows 2008 x86. The Migrating Enterprise Vault 9.0 to 64-bit hardware.pdf says "This section describes the procedures you must complete to migrate the 32-bit Enterprise Vault 9.0 servers in your environment to 64-bit servers." I cannot upgrade my existing Windows 2008 x86 server to 9.0 and the migrate doc is for migrating EV9 x86 to EV9 x64.
Is there a document that outlines the procedure to migrate from:
EV8
Windows 2008 x86
MS SQL 2005
to:
EV 9.0.1
Windows 2008 R2 x64
SQL 2008 R2 (cluster)
P.S. I am currently only journaling Exchange mail.
Thanks,
Mike

This should help:
Nice blog from Glenn Martin:
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/blogs/moving-ev-new-hardware
In your case I would move to new hardware as described in the technote then upgrade.

Hi
EV was never supported on Windows 2008 x86, so this was your first mistake ;)
My suggestion: Migrate to Windows 2008 x64 first, then update to EV9, then migrate to 2008 R2.
Sorry dude...
You can try to go directly and combine the move & upgrade, but I'm so sure that this is supported...
Cheers

Ah, Tony's suggestion is even better.. first move to 2008 R2 (EV8!) then upgrade. No need to go trough 2008 x64 first, sorry.

So if I move EV 8 SP3 from Windows 2008 x86 to Windows 2008 R2 x64 should I use the guide provided by Tony which I also referenced originally?
At the very beginning of the guide it says:
"This section describes the procedures you must complete to migrate the 32-bit Enterprise Vault 9.0 servers in your environment to 64-bit servers."
Is this the guide I use to move from EV 8 SP3 from Windows 2008 x86 to Windows 2008 R2 x64? If not, which guide should I use?
Thanks,
Mike

Yes, use the guide I pointed you to. There is not one for EV 8 so just substitute EV 8 sp3 for EV 9 in the pdf and you should be good to go.

I have a similar issue with a few nuances. Same software versions but I am migrating from Server 2003 SP2 to Server 2008 R2 and I would also like to move the store data from a LUN device to a NAS CIFS share. As you stated above, I assume I use the referenced document to move the application between the two machines. When moving the store data, if I map the NAS CIFS share to the same drive letter as the LUN (in my case the V drive), can I just then copy the data from the LUN to the CIFS share with no issues? Many thanks.

If you keep the drive and folder paths the same then yes, you can move the data that way, just be sure the
