Enterprise Vault causing unhandled exceptions in other application.

Folks,
At a client site, Symantec Enterprise Vault was recently installed on Windows XP. Immediately after installing Symantec Enterprise Vault a non-Symantec application no longer is usable and errors with an unhandled exception with traces indicating possible problems with Crystal Reports (Error Number: 5
Error Description: The type initializer for 'CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument' threw an exception. Form: CDD.VB). The affected application is mission-critical to the client's everyday business needs. The client site Removed Symantec Enterprise Vault which allowed the non-Symantec application to work correctly without errors.

Further investigation revealed that when a file named 8.0.50727.42.policy is removed, Symantec Enterprise Vault and the client's application functions without error. Removing a policy file from all user PC's would not be a solution since this affects about 100 users at the client site. Symantec Enterprise Vault is pushed down to all users from one point via SMS. Is there a known problem or a "fix" to resolve the problem described above?

Thank you in advance,
John

you could also try installing this after you install the EV Client and see if that allows them both to work:

Also, might there be an update to the other application?  Can you search it's knowledge base and see if they have addressed it?

Tony,

thank you for your response. The failing application in an in-house application and has been used by our cliet sites for many years. The application is written in C++ and requires the following:

• Windows XP (SP 2)
• MDAC 2.8
• .NET FRAMEWORK 2.0
• Crystal Reports Version 10.2

I will forward the link you posted above to my team as we are scratching our heads for a resolution and this my become critical. In the meantime, if anything else comes to mind, please post.

Thank you,

John
