Hi there.
I've been given my PST file by the admin in a file that has the extension .VaultedandScrambledPSTFile and Outlook will not open the file. Is there a method that I can use (without bothering the exchange administrator) to extract my PST file from this archive file?
Cheers,
ak.

So it sounds like you work at the same company as Tarcher from this post: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/help-unable-open-vaultedandscrambledpst-file-using-outlook-2007
You guys definetly need to work with the Exchange\EV admin to see what is going on.

have you tried renaming it to filename.PST ?

Hi Andrew.
Yes, I have tried renaming it to .pst but Outlook complains that it's not a PST file. I now believe that our exchange admin may have used a third party tool to scramble the .pst file after archiving and renamed it using an arbitrary extention; it must be in an attempt to keep the file secure but to me it seems odd being that I can still access the archived content via AE!
In any case, I'll raise it up with him and see where that get's me.
Cheers,
ak.
PS: I see you've attempted to help someone with a similar dilemma not too long ago [0], but not sure whether they were able to get it sorted or not! It did not come up in my search before I posted - most likely cause I was not using the extension during my search - :(!

you're probably right. best to reach back out to your exchange admin to find out what he did with the file before giving it to you.

Hi all.
It appears that Tarcher and I work for the same company. We've identified that the exchange admin group has an in-house tool built for the purpose of securing the PST files to avoid information getting to the wrong hands in the 'unlikely' case of a server breach.
