Hi all,
Is there any good way/place to check the progress or status of an index rebuild ?
"Rebuilding" isn't that great as a status, if it takes a long time to do a rebuild you don't know if it has hung or not.
So is there any way to actually check that the rebuild is still ongoing and not stopped/hung/whatever.
E.g. a dtrace and some "special" text to check for in the trace.
Yes I know it's not best practice to do rebuilds :)
Cheers
Fredrik

If you have multiple index roll overs across multiple index volumes, doing a restore from backup after doing a rebuild is a really annoying thing to have to go through

Didn't search well enough I guess, found a technote:
A thought occured to me, can you cancel a rebuild and then do restore from tape/update instead ?
Edit: just to clarify, there is another tech note about rebuilds but it states that there is no pause or undo in regard to the rebuild.
But does that also negate earlier backups of the index volume, e.g. shutting down the index service, restore, start service, update.

Good article JW2.
By the way, if I start a rebuild on one of the volumes an event (7315) states that the index is disabled.
Do you know what that means ?
The index location is open and defered indexing etc. is not selected on the target (this is a FSA target)
