Journal Archive NOT working - upgraded to 9.0.1

Good Afternoon Everyone -

So..  Here is the situation..  A couple changes at once. :o(  Upgraded our 8.0.4 EV environment to 9.0.1 to be compatible with our MS Exchange 2010 environment.  For the life of me I cannot get the journal archiving to work again.  The Journal Task states the following in the event log:

Event ID - 3418

An unsupported Microsoft Outlook version has been detected.

Task: Exchange Journaling Task for EXMB02

Detected Outlook version: 11.0.8169.0

The minimum supported version for Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 or later targets is Microsoft Outlook 2007 SP2 with KB968858. See the Compatibility Charts at http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/276547.htm.

I must have missed a step somewhere in the upgrade because it states it is not compliant when it SHOULD be with 9.0.1.

EVault Info shows upgraded to Version: 9.0.1.1073 .

Any advice with getting through this would be great.

On your Journal server you need to upgrade you installation of office or outlook to Officer 2007 SP2  with KB968858 or higher

It looks like you did the EV upgrade fine but you failed to upgrade the office version on the EV server that manages the journal task

Hmm.. I did not have to do that on the original servers, no Outlook or Office on the servers however I installed Outlook 2010 per your recommendation, setup the EV service account and the problem continues.  Same error. :o(

There is a known bug with journal archiving that i heard about today. I dont know the details but it does stop Journaling.

Make a call with support to see if thats the issue and if they have a work around

I know the fix for this issue is in etrack but i dont know the details

Don't think Outlook 2010 is supported on the EV servers either.  You need Outlook 2007 to archive from Exchange 2010 servers, at least according to the Deployment Scanner.

Thanks Scanner - I just hate calling support and usually get much better information from the forum, but looks like I have no choice.

SHI-CRO - Outlook 2010 is supported per Symantec with 9.0.1

Sorry the Journaling issue info I have is very small. I just heard this afternoon that there is one and it stops journaling. It is under an etrack so engineering are working on a patch for it but they may have a work around if it is the same issue

Hopefully it wont be that issue but there is a chance so best talk with them and get their input. If it is not the issue they will fix what you have. If it is they may have a work around or  they may offer other suggestions

If you previously archived from Exchange ....

You must have had SOME version of Outlook installed on the Enterprise Vault server, so I don't understand this comment

As mentioned above the requirement is Outlook *2007* with the hotfix mentioned.  Outlook 2010 is NOT supported (at this time) on the Enterprise Vault Server.

One final thing .. it is Exchange 2010 SP 1 which is supported, not vanilla Exchange 2010.

Hope that helps,

Hi Rob and Scanner1 -

Scanner1 mentioned I had to have Outlook 2007 sp2 on my journal server, translation in my head... mailbox server.  Sorry, I guess message was lost in translation.

After calling support and waiting a day and 1/2 for a reply (I have 2 hour support...grrr), they mentioned that the Vault server needed to be upgraded, not the journal server.  Trying to get a license for OUtlook 2007 sp2 right now and will report back with the results.

OK - getting closer.. Installed Outlook 2007sp2 + the hotfix and now the journaling task is running however not archiving.  Event log reports the following:

Event ID 3420

Failed to open mailbox. This mailbox will not be synchronized on this run. The problem may be temporary, in which case the mailbox will be correctly synchronized on the next run.

It reports this warning every 5 minutes.  I checked to see if the etrack issue may come into play at this point, however the directory the instructions say to replace the files in, no longer exists.  Any idea where to go now?

Thank you again for your help.

Hi,

So you are saying that you can upgraded one of your EV servers but not all, correct?  Obviously all EV servers need to be at the same service pack level as each other.

You could capture a dtrace of the journaltask and post it here.

All EV servers were upgraded to the same sp, I do not see where I mentioned they are not all upgraded.  Sorry for any confusion.  I will post dtrace soon

All right from the dtrace log I discovered that the CDO was not installed AND I had not run the powershell scripts for the perms + throttling in 2010.  Did that.. Now I get the following error in the Dtrace...
