Upgrading From v9 to v10

I current have EV9 installed on Server 2008 64bit (not R2) and need to upgrade to v10.  v10 is not supported on Server 2008 64 therefore I cannot do a inplace upgrade.

Can I use the migration wizard to migrate to v10 on new hardware?  The wizard states that it can be used to migrated to 64bit hardware however in this case v9 is currently installed on 64bit hardware?

Hi sunnych,

The SSMW(http://www.veritas.com/docs/000107842) should work in this situation.

Do you plan to go to a higher version than EV 10.x?  This is no longer supported by Engineering as is EV 11.x.  The current version for EV is 12.1.0 and 12.0.0 is the previous release.

The 10.0.4 version should installed and then CHF 3(http://www.veritas.com/docs/000020890).  Once that is confirmed working you should then go to 11.0.1 with CHF 5(http://www.veritas.com/docs/000106004).

EV 12 would require some additional OS (Server 2012 R2) and SQL (minimum SQL 2012) upgrades as per the compatibility guide -http://www.veritas.com/docs/000097605

Hi Patrick

Yes, I plan to go to v12 on Server 2012.

The challenge is upgrading first to v10.  v9 currently sits on Server 2008x64 (not R2).  I can't do an inplace upgrade as v10 is only compatible with Server 2008 R2.  The v10 migration wizard says the following so I can't use it.

“The Enterprise Vault Server Settings Migration wizard helps you to migrate Enterprise Vault from a 32-bitcomputer to a 64-bit computer.  For example, you can use the wizard to support the migration of an Enterprise Vault 9.0.1 server from 32-bit hardware to 64-bit hardware, which is required for the deployment of Enterprise Vault 10.0. You cannot use the wizard to migrate Enterprise Vault from one 64-bit installation to another.”

The only way I can think of is to build a Server 2008 R2 server and do a manual migration of v9 onto it then do an inplace upgrade to v10?

Hi,

Good to hear you will be going to 12.  I believe I have seen the SSMW work for this configuration, however there may be some issues and the manual process would be the best to ensure none are seen with the wizard.

The manual process is documented in this article- http://www.veritas.com/docs/000009277.

This would be the best option to ensure it works properly.

Patrick
