Vault Cache not synchronizing

tsingh

Hi

I am seeing an issue on some of our clients where Vault cache is not properly syncing.  The status shows complete, however the content synchronization status always shows pending, and has thousands of items stuck in "Items to download" state. And many times, when user tries to retrieve messages, outlook will eat up 50% of the CPU and freeze up.  This has been going on for weeks so....

Has anyone seen this before.

We are on EV9.01, outlook client 2007 and plug-in is HTTP only.  Vault Cache and Virtual Vault are enabled.  I do have the proper settings for Cache folder on EV server...

Thanks for your help in advance.

Rocky

the article posted above will show you how to determine if BITS is throttled, it can also be throttled via an RSoP as well. you may want to try and dtrace things like StorageManagement when you have a chance to make sure that the connection is being made from the client and that there enough slots to handle the request and nothing is failing quietly

Do you have any warnings or errors on the EV Server?
Does the temp cache location set on the EV Server correct, have enough space and excluded from antivirus?
Is the user being prompted for credentials when the sync tries to occur?
Can you get to http://yourEVServer/EnterpriseVault/VCView.aspx?
Is the Background Intelligent Transfer Services enabled on the users machine?

Is BITS being throttled on the end users machine?
Sometimes downloads are really really painfully slow due to BITS throttling , some companies set at 32k/s and when you're trying to download GB's of data, that will take a long long long time

Also it might be worth using BITSAdmin to see if any jobs are "stuck", i've noticed through a BITS client (WinBITS) that the Vault Client will add a job, and it immediately goes to paused, and i have to manually kick it off myself, otherwise it remains paused until i re-start outlook, sync, then it downloads the next batch and then creates another job in a paused state again

I do not see any errors relevant to this task or this user

Yes temp cache location is set on the EV server, I believe I have enough space (40 GB), I don't believe it is excluded from antivirus, however the local logs of antivirus do not show any errors.

User is not being prompted for login credentials.

I can get the web page you mentioned and it shows no jobs in the queue.

BITS is running,  I am not sure if it is being throttled, I will ask our network team, is there a way for me to check from client side.  Most users are not experiencing this issue, I have only seen 3 so far.  I will try the BITSAdmin option and report back.

Another way of checking if BITs is throttled is to simply create a large (say 500 Mb) file on your Enterprise Vault server, then drag and drop "copy" it to a workstation ...  time how long that takes.  Then try the same thing using BITSADMIN on the client, and time how long that takes.
