"Failed to rename key" error on Exchange server

My Exchange admin told me he started seeing these 2 errors when he had turned up the logging level to troubleshoot something else. Exchange 2003 on a Win2K3 R2 box in an EV 8.0.3 environment.

  • Failed to rename key from EnterpriseVaultExchange to EnterpriseVaultExchange(long hex key here) under key /LM/W3SVC/1/root. Error code is 80070057 (The parameter is incorrect).
  • Failed to rename key from EnterpriseVaultPublic to EnterpriseVaultPublic(long hex key here) under key /LM/W3SVC/1/root. Error code is 80070057 (The parameter is incorrect).

Google's got nuthin'. Anyone seen this?

Thanks

Mark

actually just call Microsoft, its something wrong with the metabase, they will probably either get you to delete offending entries out through metabase explorer or rebuild it entirely.

There was an old MS KB that described these scenarios but its gone now, old KB number is 843093

So everything i've searched for appears to be pointing to metabase corruption
I believe what you'd have to do is to remove the EV Exchange entries from Exchange System Manager itself then run through the OWA setup wizard again
