Catalog Backup hung and block schedule backups to start

Hi,

OS : Windows 2003

Natbackup Version : 6.0

Issue : We see a job getting hung and blocks the schedule backups to start. The job shows as a catalog backup job. No particular timing of the job.

Catalog backup policy schedule is from 06:00AM-04:00PM everyday.

The hung job starts from somewhere and just hangs there.

Once we cancel this hung job, the schedule backups if any start and runs fine.

Manual catalog or schedule catalog backup runs and completes fine.

Manual backups are running fine.

Any solutions are highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ramakrishna

Upgrade your NBU version. NBU 6.0 scheduler was extremely problematic and support for all NBU 6.x versions ended in 2012. This means you can no longer get patches for NBU 6.0 or even 6.5. Note that Microsoft support for W2003 has also ended and that support for all NBU 7.0 to 7.6.x versions will end in a couple of months. You need to either plan a phased upgrade and migration to new OS and NBU or else install new server and NBU 7.7.2 and keep old environment for restores. Bottom line: There is no fix for your NBU 6.0 problem.

Hi Marianne,

Thank You for the response.

Yes, we know for both versions the support is ended.

But wanted to check if anyone has faced similar issues and what was the solution implemented.

In this case, is it related to brb log is corrupted or to any db files getting corrupted ?

Thanks,

Ramakrishna

There used to some file associated with nbpem that could be cleared for temporary fix/ workaround. pempersist ore something like that. Cannot remember where the file is created. Most Technotes for 6.x have been removed, but you may find forum posts if you Google NetBackup pempersist.
