Catalog Backups Empty (0 kilobytes written)

MikeEK

Netbackup 5.1 MP4

Master/Media Server all on one box.  Catalog server paths follow

C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Netbackup\db
C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Volmgr\database
C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Netbackup\var

I've verified that those paths are there on the box and correct.

The backup seems to go ok and it always successfully completes,  When I go into the details of the catalog jobs the file list is empty and "Current kilobytes written" is 0.

Has anyone seen this before?  It doesn't make sense to me that I'm getting no errors but empty catalog backups.

Thanks for the help

Mike

This is normal behavior.

The best test is to do an actual bprecover to a test box.

Next best test is to simply list the information from the tape.

List the backup header information for catalog  backup  that
was done to disk path /disk/bpbackup.
          # bprecover -l -dpath /disk1/bpbackup
          Database Backup Information from /disk1/bpbackup
          Created:      02/20/2002 12:13:47
          Server:       bphost
                        Path
                        ----
          IMAGE1      /usr/openv/netbackup/db
          IMAGE2      /usr/openv/volmgr/database

I tend to agree with Bob, the traditional cold catalog backup is 99.99% reliable from my experience although it is hardly sophisticated and is not able to span tapes etc as it is a simple file dump. Do test it out and things should be fine.
