Hi,

I using 4.5 FP6 and i have 4 LLTO2 drives in L180 storage Library. Is there anyway which i can speed up the duplicating timing? It takes more than 7hours to duplicate offsite tapes. Any parameters which i can modify so that i can send my offsite on time?

Are you using Vault option for the duplication? Or duplication is done through scripting?

Check the logs to see what you are currently getting for a transfer rate.

read these technotes

You could try making 'in-line' copies when the backups originally run as well.

This would take 2 drives per job though, so it might not be all the helpful.

Hi,

I am using Vault.

Basically 2 drives are loaded with main images and the other 2 drives are used for duplication when the vault policy triggered. The NB are currently on 4 Sun Servers. Can you explain what do you mean by "in-line" copies?

Thanks,
Terence

Keep in mind the restore time.
It may be of more concern than the backup time.

In-line is where you write 2 copies at once while you are taking the backup (instead of making a copy of the backup later).

In the schedule properties, look for a checkbox for 'multiple copies'. Check that and then hit the 'Configure' button next to it. You can configure the copies to go to 2 different volume pools (onsite and offsite). Then you can just have Vault eject anything in the 'offsite' volume pool.

Hi,

I using vault but how do i eject the tape if i'm using "multiple copies' whereby i need to eject the second copy for offsite?

Terence,
You need to configure your 2nd copy to use its own Volume Pool.
Then configure the Vault Profile to eject volumes in that Volume Pool.

That's all there is to it.
