Exchange 2010 db restoration

Hi All,

We are facing issues while trying to restore dbs in Exchange 2010. We are getting the following error while trying to restore.

**Note: The restoration gets completed successfully when Automount disabled and while exchange admin tries to mount the db the following error comes up:

"

Operation terminated with error -939586631 (The restore environment information

isn't found or can not be opened.

) after 0.15 seconds."

**Restore job fails when automount is enabled stating that restore completed successfully whereas the db mount failed.

Master Server:

OS: Windows 2008 Enterprise Server R2 -SP1

NBU Version: 7.1.0.2

FT Media Server:

OS: RHEL 2.6.18-194.el5

NBU Version: 7.1.0.2

If any one had come across this issue, please let us know the fix.

Thanks in advance!!!

1. Have you completed the Distributed Application Mappings section in the Master Server Host Properties

2. Do you have a NBU Client installed on all CAS and MBX Servers?

3. Do you use a hardware loadbalancing CAS HUB?

4. If this is to a Recovery Storage Group restore (or 2010 equivalent) did you set the restore to be redirected and edit the path to that of the name of the RSG (original location does not work on 201 like it used to on 2007

Let us know these answer and also if you have the tar and bpresolver logs set up on the CAS / MBS servers include the logs from those

did the Exchange admin create the RDB for you - best to have it point to its own drive - and it has to be big enough to hold the biggest MailStore you would want to restore to.

and to verify what your source is the dag  and destination is pointing to the RDB.

and verify that you say it is a point in time recovery.

Yes... As mentioned by you , the necessary actions have already been done. NBU s/w has been installed in the CAS servers, load balancing has been enabled and restore is also redirected . As stated in my post above, the restore completes successfully , whereas the exchange admin is unable to mount.

checked and found that the we are not performing H/W based load balancing. Windows LB is used .

Issue persists even after upgrading to NBU 7.1.0.4 . When commit option is selected the restore succeeds and db health status shows -clean shutdown , where when commit option is unchecked and Exchange admin tries to UP the db it shows up as Dirty Shutdown.

Vino,

Issue is observed in only one node of the DAG, or all nodes in the DAG have the same problem while restore? Hope the NBU services are running with Exchg administrator privilages.

can you ask DB to perform eseutil repair to get DB in clean shutdown state after restore

Thereafter check if he's able to mount DB
