How to Demonstrate Enterprise Symantec Solutions for backup and archiving?

UFO

Hello to everyone @ Symantec Connect Community!

I am planning (and actually already doing) the setup for the Demo Room in our company dedicated to Symantec Enterprise Solutions (backup, restore, achiving).

The purpose is to be able:

  • Show the solution for the internal technical specialists
  • Make oveview demo for potential customers.

The challenge is to make it simple but informative enough to give our partners/customers the comprehensive information about the product.

So here is call to action!

  1. If you have the experience on setting up the demo environment for NBU, EV - please share (post it here).
  2. If you know any online resources on how to show NBU and/or EV (e.g. online self-paced Hands-On-Labs) - please share.

Example 1: what I found on EntSupport (entsupport.symantec.com) was the "NetBackup Architecture overview" by Dave High dated back 2008 (PDF attached). The document gives good insight on system requirements for NBU, but is out of date in terms of relevancy.

Example 2: NetBackup Basics overview videos by ... yes! Dave High:

You can also log into PartnerNet and search for "netbackup demo".

There are tons of resources, like cookbooks, demo scripts, etc. for providing a netbackup demo.. I believe there are also ones for Enterprise Vault and Puredisk as well..

Just found the example on VSF: Hands-On Demo: Storage Foundation for Windows in a Hyper-V Environment

http://video.symantec.com/services/player/bcpid39584950001?bctid=81743589001

here's the link to video demo. But the question is still open: where to get simple instructions on how to setup such kind of demo?

Now we need Symantec to expand on this...significantly...

Online free eLearning for Symantec partners are available through PartnerNet.

I'm myself quite new in Symantec sphere and found realy interesting elearning here.

Simply Click University Tab > Training link > Symantec Technical Specialist (STS)
From here, select Storage and finally click Netbackup and/or EV.

This should display available courses (see enclosed screencopy). Search for "Online" word.

most of them are free.

Click desired Online eTraining and on the new page, click "register myself"

Then click "Complete registration":

From the new display, Click the small arrow icon

This should land you to a new windows with many links on the left. Click one to start corresponding course.

I use to share also what I learn.

Regards

Bernard

I'm giving your comment a +1 vote. This is the info I already know but it is still very useful for Symantec partners who are making their first steps. Bernard, thank you for posting these detailed instructions.
As from my side, I'd recommend to use SSE+ courses for more than just a sales information on products.

This one is very close to what I'm looking for! Good! Thank you smiley

Have you used such scripts or cookbooks successfully?

Thanks, I will vote also +1 as I aggree SSE+ give SE tips for selling (for designing) and give sales people better understanding of the solution.

Ed, thank you. Could you please explain how to use the resource?

--- UPDATE ---

Got familiar with the resource. After setting up language and locale got list of all events (recorded seminars).

Ed, again, thank you.

Found squirrelking's advise most useful, but discussion is far from closing.

Does anyone know is there's a resource for Symantec products, like Microsoft has its Virtual Labs?

-- UPDATE --

Recently got information (in other Connect discussion) that Symantec virtual labs are provided to Symantec partners with the some level of competency.

-- UPDATE #2 --

Got access to Symantec Virtual Labs on Symantec PartnerNet. This required e-mail request to Symantec PAM (only if you're Symantec Partner; in case you're Symantec customer - contact your preferred Symantec partner).
