Increased retention Policy File_Sever.

Hi,

      Need to increase the retention time of a policy file server, thus have two schedules.

Differentiates Incremental - retention 2 weeks
Full - retention 2 weeks

My client requires monthly backup of the corresponding 12 months one year.

Remarks:

        Master Windows Server 2008;
        Windows Media Server;
        Policy Windows File Server with 210GB volume;

I always find that a calendar schedule works well for weekly /monthly ones

So diff is frequency based and runs say 6pm to 2am Sunday to Thursday with a frequency of 10 hours (the frequency must be just larger than the duration) with a retention of 2 weeks

Monthly runs as calendar based on the first Saturday of the month - starting at 00:10 until 06:00 with a retention of 12 months (open on a Saturday only)

Weekly runs on the second, third, fourth and last Saturday of the month - starting at 00:10 until 06:00 with a retention of 2 weeks (open on a Saturday only)

It is done this way as you do not want calendar based jobs crossing midnight .. the Saturday job is in effect Friday nights backup

Regarding the volume pool?

Is there a guide for selection of the tapes?

If you need to use a specific volume pool for say Monthly backups (and you don't actually need to as NetBackup will not mix backups of different retwntion periods on the same tapes anyway) then on your Monthly schedule select to over-ride the volume pool used (using the normal pool on the policy attributes tab)
