Is this a dead tape problem?

Veritas Netbackup 5.1 on Server 2000. Exchange 2003 environment.

I am attempting a tape restore and failing. The output (below) looks fairly terminal. Does anyone know if there is a workaround? The tapes are correct for the restore period.

Looks like bad media.  Any chance Encryption was enabled?  See this old thread:

NBU 5.1 - It's time to upgrade dude smiley

Identify the tape drive the restore used and down it. Then re-try the operation.

If the read error re-occurs - it really doesn't look to good.

Do ypu have bptm log on media server?

What about Windows Application and System logs?

PS:
I'm sure that you know that Win2000 and NBU 5.1 ran out of support long time ago?

Painfully aware of the age of the gear in use and slowly but surely opening the customers coffers for a nice new installation etc. Encryption was not on the image, I got the tape library guy to reload them but no dice.

It was as i feared, dead media. Thanks for the suggestions all the same guys.
