Issue with Master and Media communication

DRW
Level 3

Installed NB7.0 Master on Windows 2008 R2 (as a VM), then installed Media server on a physical server with Windows 2008 R2.

I'm having issue communicating between Master and Media.

I'm getting "Unable to connect to the selected NetBackup host" error from Media to Master and vice versa.

-  Ping and DNS resolution is fine

Assistance would be appreciated...I'm thinking something in 2008 R2 that I need to twick?

Nothing stands out.  Thank you anyways, Mo.

I'm guessing it's some security setting on W2K8..

by default windows 2008 R2 has the firewall on, have you check the windows firewall on the server to see that the ports netbackup needs are open?

Firewall disabled on all our build version.

Thank you anyways, JH.

Ok, lets start from the top:

did you get an error whilst installing the Media server?

During installation, you had to specify the Master sever - get any issues there?

..upadate /etc/hosts file with the relevant servers IP and hostnames..

from command line of MEDIA server:

bpclntcmd -pn

you should get a reply from the master server

.... bptestbpcd -host <master server name>           -------> from media

... bptestbpcd -host <media server name>             --------> from Master

Can you confirm that Reverse lookup works in both directions?

Check 'nslookup <IP-address>' in both directions.

Also test with 'bptestbpcd -host <name> -verbose' in both directions.

Thank you, Mo.  And WOW.

Two comments for Symantc:

- Very intuitive place to put properties of the Master server.

- Enterprise support should be paying you guys....

DRW, Seriously considering canceling our support...
