Issue with Media ID after putting new tapes

hargy

Hello all,

I have started to look after some new back ups using NetBackup 6.5.4 and am having issues with putting new tapes in.

In a nutshell the Media Id does not correspond with the Barcode when a rescan/update barcodes is completed.

Is there a process that I need to follow when putting new tapes in?

many thanks in advance

Paul

And the Storage Unit output?
What is STU type?
And drive type?

I find it strange that you have run an inventory and tape location shows up as NONE (non-robotic?)

You can see in above output that the media type is DLT and the tape is not in the robot:

Media Type:                     DLT

Robot Type:                     NONE

Volume Pool:                    NetBackup

HI I have tried to rin the bppllist -label <STU-name> -L command but it returns the following

C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\admincmd>bppllist -label gos2bup001-dlt-robot-tld-0 -L
bppllist: unrecognized option -label
bppllist: [<policy name>] [-L|-l|-U] [-verbose] [-allpolicies] [-inventory]
        [-M <master_server,...,master_server>]
        [-hwos]
        [-byclient <client>] [-keyword "keyword phrase"]

I have had the old tapes put back in and re run the inventory on the robot and done a test back up ready for tonight.

Is there a process that needs to be followed when introducing new tapes such as

Expire all old tapes

Eject all old tapes

insert new tapes

Reun inventory.

regards

Paul

Apologies!

Wrong command!

bpstulist -label <STU-name> -L

Please also show us all text in job that showed  ' need operator input'.

Media with barcode NPY211L4 is not in the robot.

Best to add barcode rules for NBU to add media as media type that matches STU and tape drives and also to go to Scratch or other backup pool.

You will have to delete all tapes that were added as DLT type and rerun inventory once you have added barcode rules.

You may also want to add Media ID generation to add media id NPY211 and not Y211L4.
But Media Id generation depends on how tapes/media id has been used up to now.
Do not change if media id's have been used with last 6 characters up to now.

Here is the outpout of that command.

C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\admincmd>bpstulist -label gos2bup001-dlt-
robot-tld-0 -L

Label:                gos2bup001-dlt-robot-tld-0
Storage Unit Type:    Media Manager
Host Connection:      gos2bup001
Number of Drives:     1
On Demand Only:       no
Density:              dlt (13)
Robot Type/Number:    TLD (8) / 0
Max Fragment Size:    1048576
Max MPX/drive:        1

I will have the tapes put back in tomorrow and tray again

OK - STU is configured as type DLT. So, tape and STU densities match. Check that you tape drives are also configured as type dlt.

You need to double-check Barcode Rules and Media Id generation config in your environment.

If these are configured correctly, there is nothing 'special' about removing and and adding tapes.
