NBU 6.5 client is supported on NBU 7.6 master

Hi gurus,

Master - Linux; NBU 7.6

Client - Solaris 10; NBU 6.5

Given the data sheet, my understanding is NBU master with ver 7.6 can backup the client with NBU client 6.5.

Please confirm that this will work. Thanks so much.

Why would you try to use a 6.5 client? Its end of life, and the minimum client level is 7.0 for Solaris. Put the 7.6 client so it matches the master.

Hi Riaan,

NBU 7.6 is in new hardware. We are in progress migrating the policies to the new server.

Currently Solaris 10 (update 3) has ver NBU client 6.5.

If we are to upgrade this to NBU client 7.x, we need to patch this server to Update 4.

This Solaris 10 server is for decomm on end of 2015.

However, as part of the project, we need to include this server to be backed up by new NBU.

Want to check if backup will work for NBU client 6.5

Thanks.

For simple file level backups it would probably work fine. What you should be concerned about is when it doesn't work, and you need to restore, and you're running unsupported versions you'll be stuck.

Please understand that technically 6.5 client will work with 7.x server(s), but that it is no longer supported.

See the Version Compatibility TN: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH29677

hi marianne,

if we are to upgrade the client to 7.0, we have to patch our solaris 10 update 3 to update 4.

we want to skip the patching.

as for the support for 6.5, noted and understand. =)

thanks.
