Hi

i have a nbu 7.6.1.2 with a tape robot, we have now in multiple occations had this issue  - status 96 unable to allocate new media for backup, storage unit has none available (96)

But the scratch media pool has 20+ tapes with status Available (available_media.cmd) - see attached file.

I have tried to move medias from scratch to NetBackup pool and they are presented as available

but when start af manual run it fails after a few seconds with status 96

Media and drives are configured as HCART

from the screen shots I can see that all media are expired.

volume expiration date is the date that netbackup stops using that media. Probably you had confuse it with data expiration.

Change all media expiration dates to no expire and rerun the test backup.

The location of the Scratch tapes are all NONE.
This means that they are not in the robot - TLD(0).

You need to put the tapes in the robot and run Inventory update.

*** EDIT****

I see you have a Scratch pool and scratch pool. Why is that?

Stefanos is right - you have a Volume Expiration on the scratch tapes.
This is different to Data expiration.

Volume Expiration means that you have decided the tapes are too old and can no longer be used for backups.

Looks to me, that the Volume Expiration dates have all passed on these tapes.

Try changing a few of these tapes to never expire:

vmchange -exp 0 -m <media_id>

Then run another backup

Hi Marianne

I created a new scratch pool = scratch instead of the old Scratch

And new tapes are ordered

Thanks
