I've ran into the problem when i try to create policy for VCloud Director backup.

I have added credentials for vcloud director server (load balancer) and for vcenter server in Netbackup console.

After setting the selection string in policy tab "vmware" I try to test it and get the following error:

---------------------------
NetBackup Administration Console
---------------------------
VM retrieval failed, server = [vcloud.vdc2b.ru]., nbu status = 1, severity = 1.

---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

In the log i see

The solution was found in detailed log.

There is a complex problem of vCenter + vCloud. There is rfc 4343 from 2006 year which explains case sense of network names (vcenter and vcloud network names) http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4343

Domain Name System (DNS) names are "case insensitive". This document explains exactly what that means and provides a clear specification of the rules.

In my environment there is an upper and lower case simbols in network names, but i have used only lower when set it in netbackup configuration (vmware credentials settings).
When I insert exact names (for example vCLOUD.local) it starts working.
