Netbackup - Multiple Policies backup to single tape

Dear all,

any idea or solution how to configure Netbackup to backup multiple policies ( 20+) to a single tape media using single tape drive. we are using the SUN STK SL3000 24 LTO4 drive. netbackup Master Server Version 6.5.3, Media and client are 6.0.

  1. setup a storage unit with 1 tape drive
  2. have all your policies use the same storage unit
  3. setup all your policies to use the same volume pool
  4. As, Seth said, use multiplexing on the policies, and storage unit to have them write simultaneously.  Make sure you set the storage policy to a number that will keep it busy but not overload the server.(Max streams per drive)

Hi,

Here is how netbackup will select the media for a backup:

Media selection will completely depend on your enviroment. I would suggest to go through the technote above to understand how netbackup will select media and configure your backup evironment accordingly.

 If you want them to back up to the same tape sequentially, they need to use the same retention.  If you want them to back up to the same tape simultaneously, they'll need to use the same retention and have multiplexing enabled.
