Please clarify.

Where are you looking for Linux type of OS? What is the version of NBU?

If you are looking into this drop-down box:

You need to use "Standard" for Unix/Linux backups.

This should be mentioned somewhere in the manual

Now i have specified Solaris-10 as the Operating system and it has successfully taken the backup of a linux client machine

I know this is not the proper manner

You can modify it manually using command-line utility bpplclients or try Java GUI for example.

In NBU 5.1 , if you hadn't installed the client binary on the master server, the drop down menu wouldn't show that client/hw combination.

I don't know if it still true for 6.x
