Netbackup SharePoint support issue

According to this KB http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH170557 due to internal SharePoint 2010 database changes (after SP1) netbackup fails.

Does this mean that Netbackup uses directly the internal SharePoint database? Microsoft does not support using directly the internal SharePoint database but only through the SharePoint API.  

Does someone have any information on the supportability of backing up/restoring a SharePoint environment with NetBackup. Does it mean that the SharePoint environment is no longer supported by Microsoft?

The standard Sharepoint API is used to discover the topology of Sharepoint by NetBackup.  In Sharepoint 2010 SP1, there were changes in this area NetBackup needs an update to properly recognize. 

The internal schema is used to map Granular Recovery objects which also changes in 2010 SP1.  This mapping is done from the backup copy and not directly on the Sharepoint Database

NetBackup supports backing up Sharepoint, you will need the hotfix posted to backup 2010 SP1 as the backup will fail without it.

Did you see the downloadable hotfix at the bottom of the TN that you found?

I did see the hotfix download. My question was only on the supportability issue.
