Dears,
One of our customers installed Netbackup in thier environment and they are planning to purchase a VTL. they need around 50TB usable capcity but when it comes to cost they founof it is over budget. I am thinking to sugget a SAN storage with deduplication like NetApp FAS2240-4.
my concern here is thier many advantages of VTL over a SAN storage like NetApp with deduplication more than that Netbackup will detect the VTL as a Tape library and for NetApp it will be a Disk? or in General what is the advantages of VTL over SAN with Dedupliaction ?
Also could you please need any article / document that recommend to use NetApp as a backup repository with Netbackup.
Many Thanks and Regards,

Have you given NetBackup 5230 Appliances a thought?
With additional FC cards to make it a FT media server?
Or without and take full advantage of Client side dedupe and Accelerator?
VTL is configured as normal tape. NBU cannot take advantage of any dedupe features.
Please see the NBU HCL for different features supported by the different Appliance vendors: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH76495
