Hi,
We are also moving out a small setup of Solaris Master Server with 50 windows clients to Windows 2008 Server.
But here we are doing a Fresh setup on Windows Server and not migrating the Catalog from Unix Server.
During restore the Old archived backups from Solaris Master Server, we will do the Import Phase I and Phase II during the restore.
I am new on Windows Server setup. Please guide me, related to backup / restore / system performance / trouble shooting etc.
With Regards.

I know that you are no stranger to NBU on Unix - it's the Windows part that is new...
Day-to-day management on Windows is exactly the same as on Unix. Even NBU commands are the same.
Good performance considerations article can be found here:
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/tuning-windows-2003-and-2008-symantec-netbackup
One 'irritating' 'feature' of W2008 is that almost everything needs to be done with right-click, Run As Administrator. This includes installation of NBU, opening the GUI. opening cmd, etc.. etc...
I have had the experience where all configuration worked fine, but when I tried to run a 'simple' report, I received 'no entity found' error.
If you can, ask that UAC (User Access Control) gets disabled before you start...

follow below steps about your activity ....
*****Make sure new master server is communicating with all existing NBU clients.
1. Install fresh NBU master server with recent release & patch level
2. Create all NBU policies as it was in old master server
2. Configure robot & drives with Master / Media server
3. import all existing media in New master server

In addition to Marianne's suggestion, there is this performance tuning technote for NB7.x on Windows 2008 R2:
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH145791
Few more points would be:
- Try not to setup MSDP on the master server, if you need MSDP use a separate media server for that.
- It's generally common to have Anti-virus software on Windows box, but sometimes it may affect Netbackup operation you may want to exclude the application from virus scan:
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH152328
- Always use "Run as administrator" as Marianne emphasizes. :p
