Reusing a LTO4 tapes with the same barcode.

Hi Everyone,

I had a LTO4 tape with the barcode 000041 (TAPE1) at one of our old Data Centers that's not operational currently.

In our present Data Center we have another LTO4 tape with the same barcode 000041 (TAPE2) which has been sent to offsite location.

Now I want to reuse TAPE1 in our current envronment.

Will that cause any problem due to conflicting barcodes.

If not what I need to do.

I am using NB 7.1 for backup and we are using Quantum tape library.

Please help.

Regards,

Brikesh B. Nair

Yes - barcodes need to be unique in EMM database.

You cannot have 2 tapes with the same barcode, even if they are in different locations/robots.

You will need to put a new label on the tape that is not currently in use (TAPE1) and label it in NBU to overwrite the internal label (de-select 'verify label').

Thanks Marianne.
Can you please help me by providing the steps for labelling the tapes from NBU end?

HI Brikesh,

Apply new barcode to tape (TAPE1). insert in the library. and update inventory

IF u r using admin console

Media and Device Management ->  Media  -> Robots -> TLD

select the tape -> right click -> click on label

A job will start in active monitor, as the job gets completed our media will be ready to use with new barcode.....
