Hi there

we have a sl8500 with acsls and it have started to behave strangly.

it load tapes but dont send any data to it and when a job stop it will not unload it. but it is randomly.

so somtimes it works and some time it dont?

i have found in the messages logs on the media servers( we have 3) following error code for all devices

ioctl error on tapedrivename (device 3, /dev/nst3) thru sg driver, Success??

we have had sun look at the robot and found no errors?

any body a clue.  Smiley Sad

We had a weird problem - not with a robot, but with another server linking to SAN-based drives. It ended up being a slighly kinked fibre cable that was causing intermittent communication problems - high CRC errors and dropped packets.

If this is fibre related - you may want to check your fibre switches for high error counts on any ports, and replace any fibre cables with high error counts.

Worth checking in any case....if Sun has verified no robot problems.

Hi I have found that on one of the media servers is following process running

oprd -sockfd 13 -p 4 -nosig

rdevmi -sockfd 13 -p 50 -r

should they be runing on a Netbackup 6.5 server with an ACSLS robot attached??

They look like normal processes to me - listeners (as part of vmd/SSO) for tape mounts/unmounts and device readiness.

I like the previous post re dodgy fibre or SCSI cabling.

I had the strangest intermittent issues too, with brand new hardware, in an SSO environment - until we tracked it down to a bad SFP of all things.
