Hi ,
i our org we had only one TL.. we have installed a new one and have configures the devices.. now i can see all the drives in my master/media svr.
I tried run a restoration via secondary TL.. hence inserted the required media and startde restore.. my master server made a lookup on TL1 and qued the job as media not available.. and it seems that it has not checked for the media in my net TL i.e. TL2.
Please advice what should be checked.

I have found the solution, i had to change the density volume of the tape before restoring , and used the below command
vmchange.exe -new_mt HCART2 -m mediaid
It worked well :)

A restore has to be performed on the same media server as the one that created the backup.
Has the media server that did the backup tape drives in both robots ?

No, the backup was taken on a different TL & Media server on a different location.
We have added the force restore entry on our master/media server bp.conf file... so the restoration proceeds with our own media server.
We just added ESL G3 lib and did the config. i can scan and see the drives. also able to control the robot via robtest.

OK - new information. You did not tell us that you are using FORCE_MEDIA_RESTORE directive.
Was this backup made by this media server ?
If not - did you import the media (tell us how)?
06-23-2013 09:39 AM
No its a different media server - but please note i can still do the restoration with my Tape library one
i didnt import the media -- after congiguring i just inserted a media and tried to restore a content from it.

You need to run an inventory after moving the media to another library.
Additionally, the new library should be set up to display the same number of characters in the barcode as the old.
(This is a library setting, not NBU).

I ran a inventory in the tape lib , still not working..

Did you add FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER entry in bp.conf on the master server?
Entry should look like this:
FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER = <old-server> <new-server>
Next, ensure that bprd log folder exists on the master server.
If not, create the folder and restart NBU on the master to enable the log.
You will be able to see in bprd log how master server finds media server ownership as <old-server. and then sends the restore to <new-server> because of FORCE_RESTORE entry.
Another method is to transfer ownership of media to new server:
bpmedia -m <media-id> -oldserver <old-server> -newserver <new-server>

Hi Marianne,
We have the FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER = <old-server> <new-server> in the bp.conf.
The thing is that , we have not added a media server .. we have just added a new tape library and want to start restoration via the new TL
Thanks
Jacob

Please advice, is there a way where NBU can check for the media in all the library...
i.e. it checked for the media in TL1 and if it doesnt find the media then it should refer the TL2 inventory.

Please show us output of:
nbemmcmd -listmedia -mediaid <media-id>
This command will show you the location of the media as well as the media server that last wrote to the tape (media owner).
The media server that did the backup must have access to the library where the media is.
If you need another media server to perform the restore, you need to add FORCE_RESTORE.... entry to bp.conf or change media ownership with bpmedia as per my previous post.
