Status 48 during restore - Status 25 at end

NBU 7.1

Master server - Windows 2008R2

Media server - Windows 2008R2

Client server - Novell 6.5

Trying to restore a set of folders from tape.  Tape is in the library, which is physically connected to the media server.  Backups have been successful for this client.  I have attached a screen shot of the job details for this job.  Not sure what log files may help, so please let me know, and I'll be happy to provide them.

We have HOSTS files on all machines in question, and they have been verified.  bpclntcmd -hn and -ip work from master to client.

bptestbpcd -client gives the following:

D:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\admincmd>bptestbpcd -client ospr50
0 1 2
10.249.32.77:726 -> 10.204.253.1:13782
10.249.32.77:13724 <- 10.204.253.1:966
<16>bptestbpcd main: Function bpcr_new_standard_socket_rqst(ospr50) failed: 23
<16>bptestbpcd main: Function bpcr_new_standard_socket_rqst(ospr50) failed: 23
socket close failed

We've tried rebooting the client and media server, stopping and restarting services on the client, no change.

need to increase client read timeout  in master server host properties

take a look below

Don't think that's the issue on this one.  The Client Read Timeout is currently 3600 seconds (1 hour).

Status 48 is client hstname cannot be found.  This will probably be a name resolution issue somewhere, for example, perhaps there are multiple interfaces on these servers, or, the reverse lookup is returning a slightly different name, eg. FQDN or something.

You could run nbdna, this might show something.

Re logs, I'd go with

Client - bpcd

Media  -  bpbrm and bptm and bpcd

Master -  bprd  bpcd

HI Jheatson

Kindly look the below link

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH142526

Try the verbose option to get the issue.

 bpcdtestbpcd -client <clinet name> -verbose.

Hi

Status code 48 occurs due to namin resolution issues in most of the times. Cross the client host name in the BAR GUI with the client name that was backed up successfully.

Try to check the below command

nslookup client name

nslookup ipaddress

both these commands should give the same ip address and the same name.

Hi,

Yes bpcdtest verbose should give more information. Its a connection issue related to name resolution.

Check the hostname for master media and client and also check the bp.conf entry on the master and etc/hosts on client.

I hope ping and telnet from master, media and client are working vice-versa.

BPCD and BPBRM logs from Master would give more information error.

Check hostname lookup from master server to client as well from media server to client - if Client is not in DNS, add hosts entries on master and media server.

Check hosts file on client as well.
Ensure hosts entries correspond with SERVER entries in bp.conf.

As  said update the  host  file entry in the master server for the client needs to be restored and retry the restore by restarting the services in the client.

I fail to understand a repeat of what has already been said??

How would services on Novell Netware client be restarted?
