Exactly as per the error.

'Assigned' normally means that there are existing, valid, unexpired backups on the tape. You cannot move such tapes to another pool.

Only when all backups on this tape have expired (tape will now be Unassigned) can you move the tape to another pool.

If you REALLY need to get the data on this tape into another pool, you can duplicate this tape to the new/other pool and then expire the original media-id.

We can provide better assistance if you show us what you see. Firstly, show us current status of the tape you want to move : nbemmcmd -listmedia -mediaid ( media-id ) If tape is frozen and all images expired, the tape will remain Assigned to prevent new backups being written to it. If tape has valid images, please show us how you are doing duplication.

Frozen with no valid images. If you know that the tape is not faulty, you can unfreeze the tape. This will deassign the tape and allow you to change the pool. Please note the Volume Expiration date. This is a hardware expiration date. You are saying that the tape can longer be used after this date.

Not sure what you are sorry about? Did you unfreeze the tape? Did that enable you to change the Volume Pool?
