Unable to obtain the device list from enterprise media manager server unable to connect to EMM server 77

Hi,

We are having a Master server running on Windows 2008 R2 with NB version 7.1.0.3.

We are taking backup of Oracle and SAP Databases.
We are backing it to DD890.

All the scheduled Online Backups and Archive Sweeps started to fail in 40 network issue and 50 client process aborted respectively.

When i logged into the Master server and tried to access the console, it was not responding. Under Host properties, Master server was not connecting.

Then got a pop up stating, unable to obtain the device list from enterprise media manager server unable to connect to EMM server 77.

Verified Nbemm service and nbproxy both are running. The Netbackup database is alive. Checked the entry in windows registry its fine. Also verified the space in the installed location, we are having enough space.

Tried Restarting the Netbackup service, it didn't work out. Also Rebooted the server. It was fine for some time. But once after re-firing the job, again the Disk volume was down, and the backups are failing with 40.
Checked from DataDomain. There was no issue.

But in the Task manager, huge no of bpbrm and bptm processes are populating, whereas only 5 jobs are running,

Please let me know what needs to be done in fixing this.

What has changed ?  Was there a recent upgrade ? If you are seeing a ton fo bpbrm and bptm processes, but you only have 5 jobs running, maybe you need to reset the allocations.

Try running : From the bin\admincmd : nbrbutil -resetAll

Also, I would patch up to 7.1.0.4 - http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH181132

Am extremely sorry, We are already using NB 7.1.0.4. We also tried nbrbutil -resetAll and nbrbutil -releaseAllocHolds, but it didn't work out.

We have not recieved this issue again, but still couldn't find a RCA and not sure whether we will be recieve this issue in future or not.

Please let me know your observations.

Hmm...Since the system worked fine after a reboot I would think it was either a glitch in the network or some sort of resouce issue on the system.  Here is some tech notes regarding tuning :

You may want to confrim http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH197934

If this happens again, you will need to obtain the nbemm, bpdbm , bpcd from the master and bpbrm, bptm , bpcd from the media server and upload to support for review.

Does the master server have more than one NIC?

If so, does each NIC have a different hostname? (Defined in hosts file)
