Hello,
I want to understand what is app_cluster in netbackup & how it works using virtual IP (VIP) in Oracle db.How its restore works.
I have to configure below mentioned policies using given VIP for cluster xyz101 / xyz102.
On cluster xyz101 / xyz102 in DNS domain abcd.efgh.com, a new virtual IP (VIP) for a fictive database instance db555.abcd.efgh.com is activated.
Create the policies 1) ORA_DATA_abcd555 2) ORA_REDO_abcd555.
thanks,
Vishal Tope

app_cluster in netbackup comes into picture when these database serveras are also configured as Media servers, in such cases app_cluster is configured in netbackup with vip name and create the stoage units with VIP named media sever so that backup can always write from active node (where VIP is active)
if the DB servers are just clietns and not configured as media servers,app_cluster is netbackup not involves.. you just need to use the VIP name in policy--> clients , and make sure RMAN script is also configured to use the VIP name as client name. so that backup alwasy tirgger with VIP name,no matter what is the active node..
