Hello all.

Can anyone verify that you can down a tape drive even if it contains a tape which is being written to?

Thanks,

h m

I know it will not allow a down in NBU 6, but I'm wondering if it will in NBU 4.5.

If tape is currently in use, means NetBackup if NetBackup is reading or writing then you can't change status on drive but if you have tape stuck in Drive then you can by simply usinng vmoprcmd command..

Hello h m,

Are you use single Master server or shared storage options?.

Hi,

SSO is in use and the drives are shared between 3 media servers.

I am sure I managed to down a drive which was being written to with NBU 4.5, but I'm not 100% sure.

I wanted to down a drive once and NetBackup wouldn't let me because the drive was in use....so I pulled the data plug off! guess what...It got I/O errors and downed the drive Smiley Wink

Oh...I don't recommend doing this. I did it at my own peril.
